Today the NHS celebrates its 65th birthday, what an achievement!
It has been with most of us since the day we entered this world and I’m sure we’re all conscious that we need it to work well beyond its age of retirement as we all get older. In contrast Connect is a mere youngster, approaching a 25 year celebration next year.
That said we are really proud to have been delivering our services to the NHS for the past 21 years. Our overarching aim has always been to improve access to physiotherapy for anyone who needs it. Although 21 years seems like a long time, we still feel like a relatively new member of the family.
So where did it all begin? Connect started off delivering services to GP Practices on Tyneside in the early 1990s and over the past 20 years we have grown significantly to delivering community musculoskeletal (MSK) services within 14 different locations across the UK, from London to Tyneside. Over time we have formed both informal and formal partnerships within the NHS landscape to assist in delivering optimal care to patients.
In the last two years in particular we have partnered with Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and then Nottingham University Hospitals to deliver community MSK services within their localities. We are also proud that our partnership with Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals has been showcased in the pilot study recently published in the HSJ and shown on our website here.
Hopefully you will agree that Connect has matured over the past 2 decades and today reminds us of our goals, that we are committed to delivering a true partnership with the NHS – one which is joined up, fully accountable and collaborates to improve services for patients.
Now we are maturing into an established member of the team, our efforts help to reduce waiting times by enabling the NHS to provide more physiotherapy sessions and save money by reducing the need for invasive surgery. These services are provided closer to patients’ homes – where we know they want to receive them. Most importantly, patients are happy – 96% recently rated the care we provide as excellent or very good.
On behalf of Connect Physical Health, and all of our staff that deliver services to NHS patients, I would like to say “HAPPY 65th BIRTHDAY”!!
